Andhra Pradesh Targets 10 Lakh Crore Investments In Green Energy
  • Minister Nara Lokesh has announced that Andhra Pradesh is aiming to bring in investments of ₹10 lakh crore in the green energy sector by 2029. He mentioned that the State has already got ₹5.22 lakh crore worth of investments. New renewable energy and other industry fields are expected to receive about 2.7 lakh workers.
  • These points were presented by the Minister during a roundtable meeting in Davos, which was organized by CII. The main topic of the discussion was Implementing Sustainability at Scale – Pathways to Global Transformation.

Renewable Energy and Data Center Development

  • Minister Lokesh indicated that the State will be putting up data centers with a total of 6 gigawatts. Apart from that, the government has announced installations of renewable energy projects with a capacity of 24 gigawatts in order to supply these facilities with clean energy.
  • He pointed out that Andhra Pradesh is home to five among the top ten solar equipment manufacturing firms in India. Tata Power has initiated the development of 7 gigawatts of renewable energy projects and has applied for an additional 10-gigawatt project.
  • Moreover, the Minister revealed that the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Energy Transition is in progress through the collaboration of the University of New South Wales and IIT Tirupati.

Push to Accelerate Data Center Projects in Visakhapatnam

  • Minister Lokesh insisted on the quickened pace of data center projects in Visakhapatnam. He asked Conor Teskey, President of Brookfield Asset Management, during their meeting to accelerate the development of the gigawatt-scale clean energy data center platform, as agreed at the recent Visakhapatnam summit.
  • He promised government support backed by a structured mechanism for joint projects with Brookfield and the Andhra Pradesh government. Teskey replied that Brookfield would consider the latest proposals from the State.

Focus on Technology and Innovation Infrastructure

  • The Minister also proposed setting up a Regional Technology Operations Hub in Visakhapatnam. In a separate meeting with William L. Meaney, President and CEO of Iron Mountain, he requested the establishment of a Centre of Excellence in government universities across Andhra Pradesh.
  • This proposed centre would focus on applied innovation, talent development, and research and development.
