Government Studying Possible Social Media Restrictions For Children

The Australian government has prohibited social media access for all users who are younger than 16 years since December. Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh stated that the state government is currently investigating identical security procedures.

Nara Lokesh Minister Statement

  • Minister Lokesh stated that children below a certain age may not be able to fully understand the content they see on social media. He said this could expose them to harmful material. A powerful legal framework he stated needs to exist according to his assessment of the situation. He added that the government is currently studying the issue.
  • Nara Lokesh spoke to Bloomberg during a private meeting which took place in Davos. Together with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu he arrived in Davos to promote his state and attract foreign investments.

Meeting with Telangana Chief Minister

  • During the Davos visit, Nara Lokesh also met Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Lokesh shared details of the meeting on social media. He said the discussion focused on education reforms, information technology growth, and skill development in both states.
  • The two states will benefit from their Andhra Pradesh-Telangana cooperative relationship according to Lokesh. He explained that both states compete for investments but they work together to establish national leadership in development.
