ICC Gives Satisfactory Rating To Eden Gardens

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rated Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata as 'satisfactory'. The stadium will host matches during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which starts on February 7th. The tournament will take place in India and Sri Lanka.

Inspection and Facilities

  • A joint team from the ICC and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) visited Eden Gardens on Thursday. The team conducted their inspection of the stadium facilities which included both the pitch and the corporate boxes. The officials reported that they were satisfied with the infrastructure and arrangements.
  • The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) said, “The ICC team visited Eden Gardens, inspected the corporate boxes, and expressed satisfaction with the facilities. The ICC is looking forward to successfully hosting the tournament.”

Matches Scheduled at Eden Gardens

Eden Gardens will host five group stage matches. The venue will host one of the three opening matches that mark the beginning of the tournament. Pakistan will play its matches in Sri Lanka. The Super 8 and semi-final matches will take place at Eden Gardens depending on the team results.

Changes in Team Participation

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced that its team would not travel to India due to security concerns. The original schedule called for Bangladesh to play three Kolkata matches. If confirmed by the ICC, Scotland may replace Bangladesh and play three group stage matches at Eden Gardens. The ICC is expected to provide final confirmation soon.
