The Andhra Pradesh government is investigating the potential creation of an aircraft manufacturing hub for the state. The project will be located at the undivided Anantapur district which officials selected as their project site. The project aims to attract major investments while it develops the state's industrial sector.
Embraer–Adani Aerospace Proposal
- Adani Aerospace signed a contract with Embraer which operates as a Brazilian aircraft manufacturing company. The agreement enables Embraer to build an aircraft manufacturing plant in India. The company produces business aircraft, commercial aircraft, military aircraft, and aircraft components.
- Sources indicate that Embraer may establish a unit focused on small and medium-sized passenger aircraft. The two states of Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat currently compete to secure this development project. Andhra Pradesh has a chance to obtain either a complete manufacturing facility or a supporting production unit. The state government has stated that it is ready to provide the required land. Officials expect clarity on the final decision by next month.
Why Anantapur Is Being Considered
- Anantapur district contains extensive land resources which enable industrial development to take place. The site provides operational and logistical benefits because of its proximity to Bengaluru. The government intends to establish this area as an aircraft manufacturing base according to these elements.
- The government has already approved a project by Bengaluru-based Sarala Aviation. The company plans to set up a manufacturing unit for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This project involves an investment of ₹1,300 crore and will be developed on 500 acres. The facility will produce six-seater aircraft, with a target to introduce air taxi services by 2029. Additional vacant lands in the region are being reviewed for future aircraft-related projects.
Land Availability Near Lepakshi
- The government has proposed a large industrial park spread across 20,000 acres in Sri Sathya Sai district. This includes 8,844 acres allocated to the Lepakshi Knowledge Hub near the Kodikonda checkpost. Reports indicate that steps to reclaim land currently under the Enforcement Directorate have been completed for this purpose.
- Land acquisition has already started in nearby mandals. Officials have proposed allocating part of this land for the aircraft manufacturing project. The area’s proximity to the national highway and Bengaluru’s Devanahalli International Airport is seen as a major advantage. Authorities stated that final land allocation will depend on the priorities and requirements of the company’s representative team.
