Rohit was doing great before the New Zealand tour. He got 75, 14, and 57 runs in three ODIs against South Africa. Before that, he made 121* and 73 against Australia. The fans were looking for strong innings from him in New Zealand, but his scores were way below the expectation.
In this series with New Zealand, the player got 26, 24, and 11 runs in total. According to batting skills, his shot selection was correct but he had an issue with his grip. Each time he made a move, the bat would turn in his hands. This would lead to poor timing, hence the catches and quick dismissals.
The bat grip issue has become a recurring one and it has raised the question about Rohit’s role in the squad. However, it is undeniable that he is a quick learner who can cope with the curve balls thrown at him. The fans will have to wait until the next series against England beginning July 14 to find out if Rohit is going to regain his form and the position in the Indian team.
