State To Organize Grand Godavari Pushkarams Next Year
  • The state government has taken an ambitious decision to organize the Godavari Pushkarams from 23rd July to 3rd August next year. The state cabinet directed the concern officials to get the planning process done immediately
  • A sub-committee will be formed on a cabinet to propose the plans for the big temples, the old temples, and the eco-tourism sites around the Godavari river basin. The area where the construction will take place spreads from Basara to Bhadrachalam. The cabinet has also instructed the officials to prepare a detailed plan for a temple circuit that would connect Basara and Bhadrachalam.
  • Then, departments of Endowments, Revenue, Forest, Tourism, and Archaeology will cooperate and submit a detailed report by March 31.

Cabinet Meeting at Medaram

  • The government cabinet meeting took place on Sunday at Haritha Hotel in Medaram, Mulugu district. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister, presided over the meeting. The meeting coincided with Makkas-Saralamma Maha Jatara, not only was it the first time the state cabinet had met outside of Hyderabad but also in an extremely remote tribal area.
  • The meeting lasted about two hours. Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu from IT and Industries could not attend because he had already departed for the World Economic Forum in Davos. State Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, the principal secretaries, and other high-level officials were present at the meeting.
  • Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, and Seethakka along with MP Balaram Naik were the ones who spoke to the press after the meeting. They announced that the refurbished Medaram temple had been opened on Monday with the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and other ministers attending.

Key Decisions Taken by the Cabinet

  • The cabinet decided to conduct municipal elections at the earliest. Officials were instructed to prepare an election schedule that avoids disruption due to Ramadan and Shivaratri in February.
  • The cabinet reviewed the progress of taking over Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-1 from L&T and decided to speed up the process.
  • Land acquisition for Metro Phase-2A and Phase-2B will be expedited while proposals await central government approval. Land acquisition worth ₹2,787 crore was approved.
  • Land allocation was approved at 14 locations for central and state government organizations. The cabinet allotted 494 acres to TGIC for developing an Eco-Town at Abdullapurmet near Hyderabad.
  • To address traffic congestion in Hyderabad, the cabinet approved a 9 km high-level bridge from the Integrated Command Control Centre in Banjara Hills to Shilpa Layout Road.
  • The cabinet sanctioned ₹35 crore to divert Godavari water from the Ramappa reservoir to Laknavaram and further to Jampannavagu through pipelines. This project will ensure year-round water availability.
  • The cabinet approved plans to develop Medaram as a major pilgrimage center in the future.
  • Approval was given for 24 new posts in Mahatma Gandhi University Law College, 28 posts in the Pharmacy College in Nalgonda district, and a Registrar post at Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University.
  • The cabinet decided to fast-track tenders for over 6,000 km of HAM roads under the R&B department, with an estimated cost of ₹11,399 crore. Panchayat Raj works worth ₹6,000 crore will also be taken up quickly.
  • The cabinet approved the Potlapur Lift Irrigation Project in Mulugu district. The project will supply water to five villages, 30 tanks and ponds, and irrigate 7,500 acres of farmland at an estimated cost of ₹143 crore.
